A revolution of paving stones to change the aesthetics of Vietnamese streets

Recently, market of paving stones for pavement of hospitals, schools, residential areas, city squares, etc is divided into 2 segments: affordable prices with terrazzo bricks and paver block; high-quality and luxurious with natural stone.

Paver block is having more pros than other types when applying to pavement. However, the biggest disadvantage of paver block is size and color leading to low aesthetics; resulting in the fact that private real estate companies in Vietnam do not prefer paver block for their projects.

Current information on the use of paver/stone for pavement in real estate project are as follows:

  • Vinhomes: mostly used natural stones for residential area: Vinhomes Central Park -Binh Thanh District; Vinhomes Grand Park – District 9 in Ho Chi Minh City; Vinhomes Smart City – Nam Tu Liem District; Vinhomes Ocean Park – Gia Lam district; Times City – Hai Ba Trung District in Hanoi.
  • Novaland: used paver for central square of Aqua City. After a period as affected by weather, those pavers are losing color and become moldy. That’s one of the reason why Novaland lastest project, which is Novaworld Phan Thiet, began to use natural stones for pavement.

State-budget projects in provinces: hospitals, schools, pavement are still using Terrazzo bricks because of low price and customer habit. However, recently, some new state-budget projects or FDI projects are changing to paver; for example, anti-flooding sewer of Ho Chi Minh City (anti-flooding project of Trung Nam Group valued 500 million USD), Canal improvement project of District 8 constructed by Quang Dai Viet and Song Da 9 Companies, Long Hau Industrial Park in Long An province, etc. Although paver can be improved in strength, reduced in construction cost, those products used for above projects are still low aesthetics.

Also, to improve the image of the capital, Hanoi People’s committee issued new regulation to improve aesthetics of city pavement. The target is 2020, pavement of more than 900 streets in 12 central districts of Hanoi changes from traditional Terrazzo bricks to natural stones with useful life of 70 years. However, when putting in to use, those natural stones are having very low usage life, quickly downgrading, which disappointed the public.

Understanding the problems, Hoang Son Fly Ash And Cement and our partner – Nam Khang are co-operating with each other to produce blended color paver – named as Paving Stone. The purpose of new product is to maintain all advantages of normal paver, while improving its aesthetics.

After research in gradation in our labs and Nam Khang’s design department, both companies agreed to do trial production of imitated Paving Stone with two main colors: ceramic and stone.

We believe that the new paving stone product of Hoang Son will provide design companies with more options on materials, colors and meet requirements for their new ideas.

December 2023 will be the starting point of paving stone revolution in Vietnam. We are confident to spread the positivity and bring added value to our society. The strong movement of paving stone regarding quality and format will contribute to the development of Vietmam in the coming years. In the near future, we will see a different, more attractive aesthetics of pavement in both rural and urban areas of Vietnam.
