Experience in operating coal-fired power plants

The topic of a technical seminar organized by EVN and Steag Power Minerals Company (Germany), Hoang Son Fly Ash & Cement Joint Stock Company on February 26, in Hanoi.

Attending the seminar were EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh, leaders of EVN’s specialized departments, representatives of power generation corporations and leaders of Steag Power Minerals, Hoang Son Fly Ash & Cement companies.

The workshop focused on exchanging two main contents: Improving the reliability of equipment and processing of by-products in coal-fired power plants.

According to Mr. Ta Tuan Anh, Deputy Head of Technical – Production Department of EVN, the Group is managing and operating 12 coal power plants. In 2020, due to the difficult hydrological situation, coal power plants will be mobilized to operate more than 7,000 hours/year. Therefore, it is necessary to have effective solutions to improve the availability and availability of thermal power plants and equipment, and at the same time associate production with environmental protection.

Currently, within the Group, 100% of thermal power plants/companies have built and implemented a scheme on consumption of ash, slag and gypsum according to the scheme promulgated by the Group. Thermal power plants/companies in the Group have also signed short-term and long-term contracts for the consumption of ash, slag, and gypsum with partners.

At the workshop, experts of Steag Power Minerals Company focused on sharing experiences in fly ash treatment of thermal power plants such as: Standards for evaluation and classification of fly ash; storage, transportation, and handling processes; application of fly ash in the production of cement, artificial gypsum,… At the same time, exchange solutions to optimize operation and maintenance of equipment in thermal power plants.

Concluding the seminar, EVN Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh highly appreciated the useful sharing of Steag Power Minerals Company. The parties will continue to promote opportunities for professional cooperation, organize field trips at a number of thermal power plants.

The Group’s leaders also assigned EVN’s specialized committees to review maintenance and repair processes at thermal power plants; related processes on ash and slag treatment to ensure environmental protection; research and promote the application of IT in the management and operation of thermal power plants.
